Summer Denim: The Guide

The breeze. The sun. And the summer denim. We’ve designed this guide to help you navigate how to wear our favorite fabric this season. Including finding the right fit and weight. And answering the questions you have on denim in the heat.

Sun stands still

The longest day. The shortest night. A sign of summer. In many cultures, this time is considered to be the true beginning of the season. Though temperatures won’t be rising to the extremes until a month or two later. Which means now is the perfect moment to start planning your wardrobe update. And most importantly, find your summer denim.

Loosen up

Some might say that denim is not the ideal fabric to wear during summer. But the trick is knowing how to choose it. Start with opting for looser styles; airflow is crucial for your comfort. And in the height of the heat, skinny is not your friend. The fit doesn’t allow for much air circulation, and it’s often made from stretchy, synthetic materials that aren’t so breathable. When wearing wider fits, no matter how thick the material is, you still feel the breeze.

Drop the weight

To get it right on a hot day, bear in mind the weight of your denim. Just like any other textile, it’s measured in ounces, weighing anything from 13 to 32. In contrast, lightweight denim is 12 ounces and under. This small distinction makes a big difference.

Choose brighter: from colored to ecru. Lighter shades tend to reflect the sun, naturally safeguarding you from the heat. On top of that, fabrics that have skipped indigo-dyeing or had an intensive washing treatment, result in being less heavy and much softer. The perfect hot-weather staple.

If you like it raw

Typically, raw denim is heavier in weight compared to washed or undyed. However, there is a type that can be worn this season. Look out for a 2x1 weave twill construction. It’s not as technical as it sounds. This kind of information can be found in a product description, alongside the materials. The construction is much lighter and feels like cotton or linen with the same raw denim quality and feel. However, if the heavier one is your thing, summer is the perfect time to get those fades in. Sit in the sun to alter the color of your jeans or get them wet to form creases in all the right places. Making the denim yours truly.
